More than 2,500 Apply for ERIP
ERIP Window Closes after
Tremendous Response
Thank you to everyone who applied for the Early Retirement Incentive Program (ERIP). Your willingness to move from City service to the next chapter in your life will leave a spot behind for someone else who would very likely have faced layoff this year or next.
The application window for ERIP closed Wednesday, December 16. More than 2,500 people applied for the program on top of 420 who retired since June and are eligible. This means the program is very likely to meet or exceed the goals set out. City Council has the authority under the ERIP ordinance to expand the program beyond 2,400. Since the CAO is already raising alarms over next year’s budget, we think offering ERIP to all applicants would be a prudent move.
Those who applied and have not yet heard a response should receive one soon. LACERS is reaching out to applicants who have been offered a spot in ERIP to let them know which incentive group they qualify under and to discuss the details of the program.
Applicants who are offered ERIP have seven days to rescind, should they decide they no longer wish to retire under the program. Those who accept the offer will be assigned a retirement date by the City.
Those who did not make the first 2,400 have been placed on a waiting list, but should stay tuned. As some in the initial 2,400 decide not to take the offer, new spots will open up. In addition, if the City Council expands the program, new offers will go out.
If you have any questions about the program, consult erip.lacity.org for more information, email erip@lacity.org, or contact your union.

"I think [ERIP] is good for the City. I think I'm most happy that people will be able to keep their jobs, families won't be laid off, moms and dads. It will keep LA going. It's a great City. I think it will come back, and come back in the right way."
