Update for LACERS Members Planning to Retire

August 5, 2009

The City Council is expected to give the final go-ahead to the Early Retirement Incentive Program (ERIP) later this month. Adoption of the ordinance requires a 30-day waiting period, so we don’t expect ERIP to take effect until September.

But those hoping to utilize the program should start planning now.

Get started early: Those planning to retire under ERIP can start the process now. Everyone who files between June 26, 2009 and the window period would have access to ERIP incentives if they qualify. View Council President Garcetti’s motion that guarantees you can qualify for the incentives.

About the ERIP agreement: The ERIP agreement was negotiated as part of a broad effort to provide a long term solution to the City’s financial crisis, to preserve critical services and to protect workers and their families from devastating layoffs and furloughs. It was agreed on by the CAO and Mayor, passed by City Council, and sent to LACERS members for ratification, where it met overwhelming approval. The terms of ERIP, including member contributions, are set and will not change from that which members ratified.
